Hey [NEIGHBOR] -
I don’t know if you’ve heard about any of the proposed street changes around West Portal, but I wanted to see if I could ask for your help on something.
I was appalled by the crash that killed that young family recently, and because [YOUR PERSONAL CONTEXT], it wasn’t too hard to imagine that it could have been us [OR FAMILY] waiting at that bus stop.
So when SFMTA announced they were making some pretty modest safety improvements to that intersection without removing any parking, I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly they were willing to move to prevent another tragedy.
But in the last few days, I’ve seen a lot of misinformation and scaremongering pushing back against the plan. I don’t know how you feel, but I’m worried the city will relent and avoid doing anything so as not to piss off a couple loud voices.
If we feel similarly about this, would you mind letting the city know you support a safer West Portal? If you’re on the fence or are worried about what the changes will mean, I’m happy to chat about it!
